Christmas Eve Reflection – Enjoying Simple Things

12/24/2017:

I start most of my days by reading a quote from a book; today’s quote has fashioned this idea to write a simple reflection about this holiday we call Christmas.

Today’s Quote is by L.M. Montgomery; “I believe the nicest and sweetest days are not those on which anything very splendid or wonderful or exciting happens – but just those that bring simple little pleasures.”

Tomorrow is Christmas day which marks a very significant holiday in which our culture adorns our environment with extravagant trimmings, prepares prodigious feasts, and exchanges many luxurious gifts.

The ability to participate in this pageant is a blessing beyond the dreams of many who inhabit this planet.  For this I am grateful.  But for me I always wondered about what truly is at the heart of such a joyous season or even a joyous moment in my simple life.

I think this quote by L.M. Montgomery is close to the mark of what is important for me this time of the year.  What stirs my heart and soul are the simple things within this tradition: the smiles, the hugs, the conversations, the laughter, the feeling of home, the simple shared love among families, friends, and neighbors and the acknowledgement that we are all connected by this wondrous existence.

On this Christmas day, my greetings and wishes for you are not those of great materialist or monetary gain, fancy trimmings, or momentous revelations.  I hope an abundance of the simple things enters your home and surrounds you and brings unpretentious joy and peace into your life.

I hope you have a delightful experience today and every day henceforth.

What is there to say about me? I am not sure if I am typical or not, average or not, smart or not, BUT I think I definitely have a sense of humor. I am an aging baby boomer wondering if I have something to say about the world as I see it.
