There are many people on social media expressing their displeasure regarding Donald Trump being elected president. Many have stated that they will boycott the inauguration and not listen or watch it. I don’t agree with this type of action.
Anyone that knows me or if you don’t know me and are reading this narrative out of curiosity, Trump is the absolute antithesis of my person-hood. I would be hard pressed to find common ground with Donald. While he has had a life of opulence and privilege, I have experienced great joy with my work of service to, and in league with, the common person while earning a modest wage. I am also intimately connected to the community that surrounds me via volunteer work and neighborly activities.
I could devote many words highlighting our differences, but that is not the purpose of this narrative. This is about our need to remain vigilant as citizens of this already great country the United States of America.
As I began to formulate these words two quotes came to mind. The one most known to many in this country is the quote from the Godfather movie; “Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer.”
Another similar quote is attributed to Sun-tzu, a Chinese general and military strategist; “If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
With this in mind I intend to observe Mr. Trump’s every deed and action, and listen to his every word. I plan to challenge each action and word with loving-kindness, while employing all the prudence, patience, understanding, hope, and enlightenment that I can sustain.
I suggest we all gather around him and embrace him in the fiercest hug we can metaphorically muster, and hold on to him so tight that he pops like a zit from our “extreme vetting” and our embracing love. Let us not forget that Mr. Trump is a flawed character in need of our parental guidance. He is a needy person and requires our attention, and it is our civic duty to pay attention to him like a parent pays attention to the bully on the playground. We cannot and must not let the common citizens of this great nation suffer at the hands of the elitist, privileged, moneyed politicians.
Once Mr. Trump has resigned himself to the understanding that his self-absorption and vanity are a bore to the 73, 648, 823* voters who either voted for Clinton or others, we can send him back to his tower the way the Ents sent Saruman back to his tower broken and defeated .
*Popular Vote Totals: Hillary Clinton: 65,844,610; Donald Trump: 62,979,636; All Others: 7,804,213 (Total)
*Popular Vote Percentage: Hillary Clinton (48.2%); Donald Trump (46.1%); All Others (5.7%)
I hope you have a delightful experience today and every day henceforth.
