WARNING: Conservative thinking Trump voters please proceed with CAUTION: For those of you that are in support of the current president elect, I suggest you STOP reading here and go on to some other enlightening reading. The following is my subjective opinion.
I realize that millions of people will disagree with this narrative and millions others may find it to be an acceptable synopsis of the recent election cycle and the type of campaigns that were employed.
Here are some basic facts. Trump lost the popular vote. As of 11/27/2016, Hillary Clinton (64,654,445/48.2%) has received more than 2 million votes than Donald Trump (62,418,792/46.5%). This is according to an analysis from the independent Cook Political Report.
However, Trump will become president because of this entity we call the electoral college.
With the declaration that Trump is considered the president elect I reflected on this event and have developed the following narrative in attempt to capture what it means to me as a citizen of the United States of America.
The first thought that comes to mind is the prayer of St. Francis of Assisi, which I recite to myself every morning. Trumps words and actions were the antithesis of this prayer …
- Hatred trumps love;
- Injury trumps pardon;
- Doubt trumps faith;
- Despair trumps hope;
- Darkness trumps light;
- Sadness trumps joy.
MY VERSION CONTINUED…
- Oppression trumps solace.
- Ignorance trumps understanding.
- Exploitation trumps giving.
- Self-gluttony trumps compassionate giving.
- Bombastic trumps sincere.
- Sycophant trumps service to others.
- Profit trumps loving-kindness.
- Conspiracies trumps rational thinking.
- Disingenuous promises trumps proven accomplishments.
- Financial recklessness trumps fiscal responsibility.
- Religious dogma trumps the bill of rights.
- Narcissism trumps humility.
- Surfeit of the few trumps well-being of the citizens.
- Prejudiced white men in suits trump the defenseless disenfranchised vulnerable masses.
- Depravity of character trumps moral character.
- Humiliation and ridicule trumps reasoned debate.
- Discord trumps peace.
I can only imagine what the White House will become. It will likely to become a “counting house” for the affluent rather than a place to fulfill the preamble of our constitution which is to “…establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity…..”
Trump was right about one thing. In my opinion the election was rigged!
In conclusion, I cling to only one hope and that is I hope I am wrong about my perceptions of this person that was elected president on November 08, 2016 and that 46.5% of the people that voted for him saw and understood something that I did not see!
I hope you have a delightful experience today and every day henceforth.
