Community and hope for peace

My view of reality: First an intro; I am now living in a State University family apartment complex for graduate students, professors, and staff. I am literally surrounded by people from all over the world.  My neighbors on one side are from Nepal, and on the other side the young couple, with their new born baby girl Emily, are from China.  I met a family from Denmark/Sweden and there are all types of cultures within our complex that probably touch every continent on this space ship we call earth.

When I look out my kitchen window I get a glimpse of the microcosm that we envision the United States of America to be.  I grew up with the understanding that the United States of America was a melting pot; a great conglomeration of nationalities coming together to form a “more perfect union”.

Sometimes here in this Facebook reality I read posts from people that call for the spirit of yesterday when we were younger and the world was a more innocent place for us as children to run and play at will.  Here, where I live in this university complex, I witness those statements that my baby boomer generation ruminates upon.  I see and witness every day the wonderful spirit of what a community can be; which is a place to peacefully pursue a dream and to live among caring and considerate neighbors.

My kitchen window overlooks the playground and little field where the children play.  The common bond of companionship and friendship that I see spans many cultures.  It is quite simply an incredible delight to witness the shaping of friendships among these young world citizens who will someday make contributions to our existence.

So for those of you who post those statements of longing for the glory of yesteryear, and for those of you who like to post the political rhetoric of confrontation and strife, I implore you to look again and seek the kindness and gentleness of most human beings here on this earth.  We are here amongst you ready to embrace you.  AND thusly, the reality we see is the reality we seek.  Therefore, I seek a reality of peace and goodwill as preached by the prince of peace.

What is there to say about me? I am not sure if I am typical or not, average or not, smart or not, BUT I think I definitely have a sense of humor. I am an aging baby boomer wondering if I have something to say about the world as I see it.
