I love being a parent with all of my heart and soul. There is nothing cooler than that.
I could talk for a very long time about being a parent. One thing I am certain about is that distilling the experience down to the one word of “cool” is impossible. However, in an effort to share with you the “cool” of parenthood here are a few thoughts that come to mind.
- Witnessing the joy they bring to their grandparents.
- Seeing them loving their mother.
- Sharing the loving and nurturing of my children with friends and family.
- Taking dance lessons and performing on stage with my daughter.
- Exploring new places with my son on hikes and bike rides.
- Rocking a child to sleep.
- Making motor noises while pushing the shopping cart through the grocery store.
- Changing diapers.
- Problem solving issues when your child is so young they cannot articulate the problem.
- Having to drink a couple of extra cups of coffee because you were up all night with a sick child.
- Doing volunteer work with my child.
- Walking my child to and from school and having interesting conversations on the way.
- Watching them develop friendships and navigate their world.
- Volunteering at my child’s school and having them express happiness to see you and not be embarrassed that you are there.
- All the little things we take for granted: hugs, kisses, sharing meals, having disagreements, struggles with school work, grocery shopping, and so forth.
- In a way it is like having a great seat at the ball game or a show except you are also a participant in the greatest show on earth. I don’t need reality TV, I have my own “cool” experience going in my own home.
- Living and loving the whole experience of parenthood; that is one cool gig.
