Facebook comments/posts thoughts

My friends on Facebook have varying, diverse views on life and politics and some of it is not always to my liking, but for the sake of harmony, and in the interest of my own curiosity, I accept these varying opinions and attempt to learn from them.

What troubles me sometimes is how so terribly absolute many people feel about their perception of right and wrong regarding their political views and their understanding of this human condition of ours.  Many of the riddles that confront me in my understanding of this life are complex and multilayered and quite different from the simple” black and white”, “right and wrong”, rhetoric of so many politicians, media professionals, and religious zealots.  In some ways I am jealous of those who see and think in absolutes; it must be comforting not to question the very core of our existence and to be placated by the rhetoric and dogma of our culture.  For me these bombastic verses hold very little meaning.

Sometimes I will encounter songs from my limited music experiences that speak to me and convey the thoughts that bounce around inside my limited universe of a mind.

The first such song I offer is by John Lennon; “Watching the Wheels”; I guess this is appropriate at this time in my life since I am trying to learn to be an Over the Road truck driver and I see lots of wheels turning round and round: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qp9dc9im3-M

In reference to those of you who like to post your political views I offer this Buffalo Springfield song from our youth movement of the 60’s.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5M_Ttstbgs

The key words from this song are “Nobody’s right if everybody’s wrong” and “Paranoia strikes deep, Into your life it will creep”.  My question for myself is “Am I letting paranoia creep into my thinking?” and “Is everybody wrong but me?”  Some days I guess I have too much time on my hands and I need to find a hobby to occupy my mind.

My response to the current political climate in Washington D.C. is captured by Randy Newman’s song “Mr. President (Have Pity on the Working Man)” of 1974.  It was a plea to Richard Nixon to alleviate poverty as a result of the recession of the mid-1970s.  I offer this song now not only to the president but to our beloved congress to have pity on those of us who are busted.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOWYcARTwxo

In the interest of harmony I offer this song by the Youngbloods titled “Let’s Get Together”. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4fWN6VvgKQ

I have come to the realization that perhaps I am truly a dreamer, for my reality has always landed somewhere different than what others have conceived.  I honestly do hope and dream for a peaceful world.  Here is another song that strikes a chord with me.  It is “Imagine” by John Lennon.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwUGSYDKUxU

Since the Facebook universe uses the term “friends” I end this post with Andrew Gold’s song “Thank You for Being a Friend”:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQRtzJILDhs

What is there to say about me? I am not sure if I am typical or not, average or not, smart or not, BUT I think I definitely have a sense of humor. I am an aging baby boomer wondering if I have something to say about the world as I see it.
